In the fields of technology and of marketing, search engine optimization or SEO is one of the closely watched. As old methods, strategies or tools are either proven incorrect or rendered obsolete, there are always new principles to keep in mind. The amount of text that should go on a certain webpage in order to get it a high SERP (or search engine results page) ranking is a vital SEO subject that is usually debated to date. While opinions vary, there isn't one solution that is cast in stone or essentially will work for every SEO practitioner. Truth is, with SEO, the more content one has, the better for their website. For every web page to get a high search engine ranking, it has to give something to enable that. A few words on a single page ostensibly won't rank, for there's virtually nothing. Results-wise, not only is that web page isn't giving any real value, but one is not coming to grips with their targeted market. The more content, thereby, the better for SEO, as a highly fundamental rule to initiate one's work.

Choosing words is important - SEO content providers know this - and not just any content will do. Wrong varieties of content - namely, phrases inundated with keywords, repetitive content and so on - won't do one's SEO standing any favors and worse, could get one penalized in the search engines. Subsequently, visitors to the site won't be seeing anything of value and be made customers, for that matter.

So based on standard SEO guidleines, how many words does exactly an SEO practitioner need on a page in order to get ranked highly? A good entry point should be not more than 250 words. That number will enable one to provide true value to the site once it's visited, at the same time giving the search engines the impression that one is unique, and provide content directly in relation to a certain set of keywords or subjects. A thousand words or less on one page could help, but too much text on it turns off potential visitors. By equally breaking down these bigger pages into several smaller ones gives the added prize of offering more landing pages for the search engines to collect.

Making a webpage unique, fresh and highly tuned with one's target market in the view of the search engines is basically the task of an SEO company or related service, and web page content. Worthwhile content on a site enables more visitors, prompting them to give it a good look then putting it to use.

Regardless, between 250 and 500 words are the norm and provide much in the long run. Therefore, providing one of a kind, important and viable content is the key focus, that if nothing else exceeds the bare minimum of threshold for words on a top ranked SEO web page.
